How to customize the MikroTik hotspot login page

Last updated: 2 October 2026

The hotspot login page is a set of ordinary HTML files stored on the router. You can put your own logo, colours and text on it, as long as you keep the handful of variables the router fills in.

Where the files are

Open Files in Winbox and look in the hotspot folder (on some devices flash/hotspot). Drag the folder to your computer to edit it.

FileShown when
login.htmlthe customer has to log in
alogin.htmllogin succeeded
status.htmlthe customer opens the status page
logout.htmlafter logging out

A minimal login form

The router replaces everything written as $(name). This form is enough to log in when the hotspot profile allows HTTP PAP:

<form name="login" action="$(link-login-only)" method="post">
  <input type="hidden" name="dst" value="$(link-orig)">
  <input type="hidden" name="popup" value="true">
  <input name="username" type="text" value="$(username)" placeholder="Username">
  <input name="password" type="password" placeholder="Password">
  <button type="submit">Connect</button>
</form>
$(if error)<p>$(error)</p>$(endif)

The default page also contains a script block for CHAP login ($(if chap-id) … md5.js). Either keep that block, or allow PAP in the profile:

/ip hotspot profile set [find] login-by=http-pap,http-chap

A one-box page for voucher codes

If your vouchers use the same text as username and password, show one box and copy it into both fields with a line of JavaScript before the form is sent.

Upload and test

  1. Drag your edited files back into the hotspot folder.
  2. Keep images small; the router has little storage.
  3. Open the page on a phone in a private window to avoid cached files.

Restore the default page

/ip hotspot reset-html directory-name=hotspot

Where RadiusNest fits

The login page stays on your router whichever way users are checked. With RadiusNest your customers also get an account page of their own, with your name, colour and logo, where they see their data and days and change their password.

Questions and answers

Can I use my own images and CSS?

Yes. Put them in the hotspot folder and link them with relative paths. Keep the total size small.

Why do I get "invalid username or password" after editing the page?

The CHAP script block was removed while the profile still expects CHAP. Put the block back or enable http-pap in the profile.

Can each hotspot have a different page?

Yes. Copy the folder under another name and set html-directory in that hotspot's profile.
