MikroTik IP Cloud: free dynamic DNS for your router
Last updated: 11 October 2026
Most home and business lines get a public IP address that changes from time to time. MikroTik IP Cloud gives your router a fixed name that always points to its current address, free, with one command.
Turn it on
/ip cloud set ddns-enabled=yes
/ip cloud printAfter a few seconds print shows two lines that matter:
- dns-name: something like
a1b2c3d4e5f6.sn.mynetname.net. The name is made from the router's serial number and stays the same. - public-address: the address the internet sees your router coming from.
Use the name anywhere you would type the address: Winbox from outside, a forwarded port for a camera recorder, a monitoring tool. When the address changes, the router updates the name by itself. To push an update at once:
/ip cloud force-updateCheck for CGNAT first
Compare public-address with the address on your WAN port:
/ip address print where interface=ether1- The same address: your router is directly on the internet. Connections from outside can reach it.
- Different, and the WAN address starts with 10., 100.64 to 100.127, 172.16 to 172.31 or 192.168.: something sits between you and the internet. If it is your own modem, forward the ports there or put it in bridge mode. If it is your provider's CGNAT, nothing from outside can reach you; the name still points to the provider's shared address. Ask the provider for a public IP address.
With two internet lines
IP Cloud reports the address of the line the router uses to reach MikroTik's server, which is normally your main line. With load balancing, connections from outside should come in on that same line.
Good to know
- IP Cloud works on MikroTik hardware and on a CHR with a paid licence (P1 or higher), not on a free CHR or on RouterOS installed on an ordinary PC.
- You cannot choose the name. If you want your own, point a CNAME record in your domain's DNS at the
sn.mynetname.netname. - A name makes the router easy to find, for you and for everyone else. Before you open anything to the internet, read safe remote access.
Turn it off
/ip cloud set ddns-enabled=no
Questions and answers
Is MikroTik IP Cloud free?
Yes on MikroTik devices, with no account needed. On CHR it needs a paid licence.
Can I change my MikroTik sn.mynetname.net name?
No, it is made from the router's serial number. Use a CNAME record in your own domain if you want a nicer name.
Why can I not reach my router by its IP Cloud name?
Usually the router is behind CGNAT or behind another router that does not forward the port, or the firewall drops the connection.
